Yesterday, as I started to receive messages from a few friends at the Oceti Sakowin camp encouraging us not to go due to weather, I felt deeply disappointed and was still considering going until the camp sent out an official notice informing us that no one would be allowed into the camp until the weather improved.

So it is with a heavy heart that our trip has been cancelled.  However, we are in contact with a local organization that will leave for Standing Rock as soon as the weather clears and we will coordinate with them to take all the wonderful supplies that have been donated.

The photo doesn’t fully show all the supplies.  We have over a dozen show boots, wool blankets and socks, thermal gloves, warm heavy snow coats and jackets, ski pants, head lamps, batteries, flashlights, foodstuffs, etc.!!  And many of these items are new; people actually went out and bought items to donate.  My heart is full of gratitude.

Thank you all who donated and are continuing to keep the brave water protectors in your thoughts and prayers.

I also have nearly $3000 dollars to transfer directly to the camp!

Just in case you might not be familiar with this situation The Standing Rock Sioux are peacefully protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline because it is being built on ancestral burial grounds, as well as on tribal land. Additionally, the proposed route could contaminate the Missouri River, the water source for the tribe as well as many others. It can also lead to other devastating environmental impacts.

The peaceful water protectors are being met with excessive and brutal militarized police, sprayed with water cannons in 28 degree weather, shot a with rubber bullets, having tear gas sprayed on them, at one point attack dogs were let loose!

On Dec 4, 2500 veterans came to stand in solidarity. On this day, the Army Corp of Engineers also denied the DALP the easement needed to finish the pipeline – it is this easement that is on tribal and ancestral burial ground.  This seemed like a big victory for the Indians, and it is, however, it is only the beginning.

The Indians are determined and are prepared to stay at the Standing Rock camp for as long as it takes to protect the water as well as their land.

Water and the environment affect us all. It is everyone’s right to have clean water and to live on a clean earth. In this way, Act As One is standing in solidarity with our Native American brothers and sisters. And this is why we are leaving for Standing Rock on Dec 9. We are taking much needed supplies as the water protector’s face the brutal North Dakota winter and we have also started a Go Fund Me Page to raise funds.

I invite you to follow me as we travel to Standing Rock and to be part of this historic event.  I will be posting updates as well as video of our time there.
